Update on Non-invasive Vagus Nerve Stimulation (nVNS) for the Treatment of Primary HeadacheA Satellite Symposium held during the 4th European Headache and Migraine Trust International Congress (EHMTIC) in Copenhagen, Denmark
20 September 2014 • 18:30-19:30
Bella Center Copenhagen • Hall A
Programme OverviewNeuromodulation is a therapeutic modality that alters nervous system activity. Neuromodulation devices are of interest as novel, nonpharmacologic treatment options for patients experiencing primary headaches. Because many of these devices require implantation, which is associated with surgical risks and higher health care costs, development of less-invasive treatment options has been a priority. A handheld, patient-controlled, non-invasive vagus nerve stimulation (nVNS) device has been developed and is under investigation for the treatment of primary headaches, including cluster and migraine headaches. Results from preliminary open-label studies as well as recently completed randomized active sham-controlled studies suggest that nVNS may be a safe and effective treatment option for both cluster and migraine headaches.
